Birdsell Grant Gardner Morck is located in Stony Plain, Alberta, 17 kilometres west of Edmonton. It is part of an area that includes Spruce Grove and Parkland County – the 10,000 residents of Stony Plain are part of almost 60,000 living in the “Tri-Municipal” area.

With a long history as an agricultural service centre, Stony Plain has a strong and confident identity that is closely connected to its farming past. Today, though, many of its residents work in non-agricultural jobs in Edmonton to the east or in the power generating or coal mining operations just west. That doesn’t stop them from being knowledgeable about and interested in the fortunes of one of Alberta’s most fundamental industries. From the annual Farmer’s Days exhibition and fair, to the celebrations and displays of the Pioneer Museum and the Multicultural Centre, with its Demonstration Farm, farming continues to be important to Stony Plain. Each September for the past 4 years more than 1,000 school children from urban schools in Edmonton and elsewhere come to Stony Plain for City Slickers, a day to see a working farm up close, watch the combines harvesting grain and to explore many displays about the production, processing and delivery of food from the field to the table.

But Stony Plain isn’t just about farming. It is a welcoming, vibrant place with an extensive trail system to complement recreation options such as a golf course, skate board park and BMX track. From the statue of the Town’s first sheriff to the many murals located on private buildings and in public places, Stony Plain celebrates its history in full view. The bustling downtown core has all the required service and convenience businesses, plus a growing core of antique and craft-related businesses that complement the old-style light posts, benches and streetscape that has been carefully cultivated.
